The hills are alive with the sound of anticipation following the announcement that national treasure and major-league gay icon Dame Julie Andrews is to return to the London stage for the first time in 30 years with a concert at the O2 Arena on May 8 next year.
The 74-year-old star of Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and cross-dressing comedy Victor Victoria will be joined by an ensemble of five performers and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to sing from her repertoire of stage and screen hits, and it’s already known that they will include the Rodgers and Hammerstein classics Edelweiss, Getting to Know You and Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’.
Earlier this week Dame Julie said: “To perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment – it is where it all began for me.”
